The festival is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Shravana, which usually falls in August. On this day, sisters tie a decorative thread called a "rakhi" around their brothers' wrists, symbolizing their love, care, and prayer for their well-being. In return, brothers offer gifts and promise to protect and support their sisters throughout their lives.
